On May 28, a delegation from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, led by President Prof. Michail Zervakis and Assistant to the President Chrysanthi Elpida Zervaki, visited Qingdao University of Technology. Yang Yun, Secretary of the Party Committee of QUT, and Yue Lihong, Member of the Standing Committee of the University CPC Committee and Vice President, met with the delegation. The meeting was chaired by Jia Yuyue, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs.
Yang Yun welcomed the delegation and introduced the university’s development. He noted that China and Greece are important partners under the Belt and Road Initiative, and that QUT and the Technical University of Crete share many similarities in academicdisciplines, with both universities known for strengths in science and engineering. He expressed hope that the two sides would further deepen cooperation in scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and joint education programs by leveraging their respective strengths, integrating high-quality resources, and jointly building an international platform for talent cultivation.

At the meeting, President Zervakis introduced the disciplinary strengths of the Technical University of Crete and the industrial features of Crete. He noted that the university has internationally leading research capabilities in fields such as environmental engineering and sustainable energy, as well as an engineering education system aligned with EU standards. He expressed the university’s willingness to promote practical cooperation with Qingdao University of Technology in joint research, academic exchanges, and joint talent cultivation, contributing to mutual learning and advancement in higher education between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth discussions on leveraging their respective disciplinary strengths to promote multi-level and multi-format faculty and student exchanges, academic seminars, and collaborative research innovation. They also discussed joint undergraduate and master’s-level training programs in mechanical engineering, environmental science and engineering, and reached a preliminary consensus on the framework and details for advancing key projects.
Relevant officials from the Office of International Affairs, the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, and the School of Environmental and Municipal Engineering attended the meeting.
