From July 19 to 20, an expert delegation from the National Energy Group and Guoneng Shendong Coal Group visited Qingdao University of Technology for a targeted technology exchange and research visit. Chen Lianjun, Member of the Standing Committee of the University CPC Committee and Vice President, and Zhang Chuanjiu, Director of the Guoneng Shendong Coal Technology Research Institute, attended the event. The exchange also drew leaders from relevant units of the National Energy Group and Shendong Coal, alongside key research faculty from QUT’s School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering and School of Civil Engineering.

During the visit, the expert delegation conducted on-site inspections of the university’s key experimental platforms. They gained a comprehensive understanding of QUT’s research strengths, platform development achievements, and talent-building efforts in critical areas such as mining engineering construction, safety production assurance, intelligent equipment R&D, and engineering disaster prevention and control. The delegation highly recognized QUT’s application-oriented research layout, noting its close alignment with the needs of the energy industry.

On behalf of QUT, Chen Lianjun warmly welcomed the expert delegation from the National Energy Group and Guoneng Shendong Coal Group. He then provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s distinctive educational features, academic strengths, and innovative achievements in industry-academia-research collaboration.Chen emphasized that QUT has always aligned its development with the national energy strategy, continuously promoting the deep integration of industry, academia, and research. Over the years, the university has actively supported major engineering technological breakthroughs and industry-wide upgrades, building a solid foundation and robust capabilities to serve the safe and efficient extraction of coal, as well as technological innovation in the energy sector.

Zhang Chuanjiu provided a detailed overview of Guoneng Shendong Coal Group’s current development and core strengths in safe, efficient, and green coal mining, major engineering projects, industrial application scenarios, and the deployment of technological innovation platforms. He noted that, leveraging its abundant industrial scenarios, extensive engineering experience, and highly efficient coordination capabilities, Shendong Coal aims to further deepen its university-enterprise collaboration with QUT. By integrating the university's research and talent advantages with the company's industrial and scenario strengths, both parties intend to conduct regular joint technological research, promote the deep integration of cutting-edge scientific research with on-site engineering demonstrations, and contribute to the high-quality development of the energy industry.

During the symposium, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on major national coal-related R&D initiatives, engineering demonstration applications, joint research platform development, and the commercialization of research outcomes. Drawing on their disciplinary strengths and prior research foundations, university research teams highlighted their recent progress and application potential in complex engineering environment perception, geotechnical disaster prevention and control, intelligent equipment R&D, and engineering safety monitoring.
This visit has further strengthened communication and collaboration between QUT and leading enterprises in the national energy sector, as well as prominent institutions specializing in safe and efficient coal mining. It lays a solid foundation for future, higher-level university-industry collaborative innovation. Moving forward, QUT will continue to leverage its core strengths—such as interdisciplinary integration, a strong focus on engineering applications, and a well-established research platform system—to proactively align with major national energy strategies. The university will deepen its collaborative partnerships with industry leaders like the National Energy Group and Guoneng Shendong Coal Group, alongside various research institutes and peer universities. By concentrating its research efforts on critical technological bottlenecks in the energy sector, QUT will launch targeted initiatives to accelerate the commercialization and engineering application of significant scientific achievements. Ultimately, the university is committed to driving technological innovation and upgrades in the energy industry, contributing its robust strength to the national strategies of energy security and high-quality development.
