From July 17 to 20, the national finals of the 12th "Boshi Cup" National College Students' Mechanical Innovation Design Competition were held at Harbin Institute of Technology. Following fierce competition that included on-site demonstrations and defense sessions, teams from QUT’s School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering secured two National First Prizes, six National Second Prizes, and three National Third Prizes. Additionally, QUT was recognized as an "Outstanding Organizing Unit," marking the university's best-ever result in the history of this competition.

Themed "Dexterity and Intelligence for a Better Life," this year's competition required the design and fabrication of specialized aquatic product primary processing machinery, integrated leafy vegetable cleaning and packaging equipment, and high-performance bionic butterflies. Since the competition's inception, participating teams have been fully committed to intensive preparation. Working around the clock in the Festo Laboratory, they focused on 3D modeling, component machining, and prototype debugging. Through a rigorous and pragmatic approach, they successfully overcame multiple technical bottlenecks, including structural transmission and automated coordination.Ultimately, two entries were awarded National First Prizes: Fresh Shell Initiation—Fully Automatic Scallop Shelling and Meat Extraction Machine, guided by Li Zhongxiao and Xu Zhen, and Jade Leek Clean Packaging—Integrated Equipment for Cleaning and Packaging Chinese Chives, guided by Yang Yong and Xu Weixiao. These outstanding achievements delivered a brilliant performance in science and technology innovation!

Organized by the National College Students' Mechanical Innovation Design Competition Committee, this premier contest is open to undergraduates nationwide. Since its inception in 2002, the biennial event has grown into one of the most influential and renowned student competitions in China's mechanical engineering field, yielding remarkable results in cultivating students' practical engineering skills and overall competence. Furthermore, the competition plays a vital role in advancing the construction of innovation laboratories, expanding the scope of practical teaching, enhancing faculty's engineering capabilities, and inspiring students'innovative spirit.

The School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering has always regarded academic competitions as a key driver for cultivating innovative talent. By establishing a pyramid-shaped competition nurturing system, the school continuously refines its talent development approaches, comprehensively honing students’ research and innovation thinking as well as their ability to solve complex engineering problems. Capitalizing on new opportunities in intelligent manufacturing and embodied intelligence, the school will remain firmly focused on cutting-edge industry needs. It is dedicated to deeply cultivating students’ AI literacy, innovative design thinking, systems engineering capabilities, and collaborative spirit. Ultimately, these efforts aim to fully unleash students' innovative potential, strengthen their core competitiveness in the job market, and steadily enhance the overall effectiveness of innovation and entrepreneurship education through competition-driven learning and creativity-fueled empowerment.
