On October 15th, the National Annual Conference of Engineering Geology was grandly opened in Qingdao Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center. This conference was sponsored by the Chinese Geological Society and undertaken by Engineering Geology Committee of China Geological Society and QUT. It was supported and co-organized by 45 research institutes, universities, enterprises and public institutions, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chang’an University, and China University of Geology (Wuhan). The conference was held online and offline simultaneously.
Prof.Cui Peng, Prof.He Manchao and Prof.Peng Jianbing, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof.Tang Huiming, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the ChinaUniversity of Geology(Wuhan) and chairman of the Engineering Geology Commission of the Chinese Geological Society, Prof.Wang Fawu, academician of the Japanese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Tongji University, Prof.Wang Jian, chairman of the Qingdao Association for Science and Technology, and the vice-chairmen of the Engineering Geological Committee of Geological Society of China attended the meeting.
Prof. Wang Yajun, party secretary of QUT, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the school,introduced history of the school and pointed out that Qingdao University of Technology attaches great importance to the development of engineering geology, and led the construction of the Shandong Geological Environment and Effect Engineering Technology Research Center.
Prof.Wang Jian, chairman of the Qingdao Association for Science and Technology, Prof.Tang Huiming, chairman of the Engineering Geology Commission of the Chinese Geological Society, and Mr.Qi Shengwen, secretary general, delivered speeches respectively.
With the theme of “Engineering Geology and Modern Ocean”, ten topics were set in this conference, including Marine engineering geology, climate change and coastal urban environment, rock and soil structure and characteristics, active structure and regional engineering geology, surface process and mountain disasters, tunnel and underground space, geological disasters and environmental protection, major engineering construction and environment, modern engineering geology and new infrastructure and engineering geological education. During the two-day session, the first national college students’ engineering geological innovation competition of “Qingdao survey cup” was held. The participants exchanged widely and deeply to provide suggestions forthe implementation of China’s “maritime power”and“the Belt and Road”national strategy and the construction of beautiful China.
